A live butterfly gliding over a wedding stage gets a reaction that a standard drone never will. The CTorque Bionic Butterfly is a flapping-wing RC aircraft made for that kind of moment, in stage shows, weddings, events and displays.
What it is
Instead of spinning props, it flies by flapping its wings. A gyro-stabilised flight controller holds its attitude, which makes it friendlier to fly than its delicate looks suggest, and it can perform aerial rolls. It flies indoors or outdoors.
Built-in LEDs with three light modes run along the wings, so it reads well on a dark stage or at an evening function.
Which version to buy
- RTF with Remote: the butterfly plus the CTorque ESP-NOW remote and its USB charging cable. This is the choice for most buyers. The remote also shows battery levels for itself and the butterfly.
- RTF without Remote: for pilots who already own a radio. Fit a RadioMaster RP2 ExpressLRS receiver and fly it from any ELRS radio, or use an ESP-NOW remote.
Both versions include two 1S 380mAh flight batteries and a screwdriver.
Choosing a wing design
There are 18 printed designs, lettered A to U, and you pick one when you order. Because the butterfly has a detachable structure, you can also swap designs later to suit a theme or a client's colours.
For a stage with dim lighting, take the LEDs into account too. Printed colours show up best under stage light, while the LED outline does the work in the dark.
Planning a wedding or stage show
Scout the space
Walk the venue in advance. Note ceiling height, fans, decor, hanging lights and where guests will stand. Ceiling fans and strong air conditioning are the first things to ask about, because a light flapping aircraft is easily moved by moving air.
Rehearse in the real location
Practise the actual route at the venue if you can, at the time of day you will perform. Know where you will take off, where you will land, and where you will stand to see it clearly.
Keep it away from people
Plan a route over open space, not directly above guests, and keep a clear landing area. Agree this with the event organiser and venue beforehand, and ask whether the venue has its own rules. For outdoor flying, read our guide to drone rules in India.
Plan your batteries
Time a real flight in rehearsal rather than assuming, then bring enough charged packs to cover the show and a repeat. The butterfly uses a 1S LiPo of 380-530mAh rated 60-90C, and the GNB 1S 380mAh A30 matches. It charges in LiHV mode at 4.35V on a 1S charger with an A30 port or adapter, so sort out charging before the day.
Pack spares
Wings are the most exposed part. A busy event calls for a spare set at minimum.
- Spare parts: an assembled wing with LED, wing fabric alone, or a carbon rod set.
- LED strip: a 3.6m 0.13mm micro LED strip for wing building.
- Remote controller: a spare, or for an RTF without Remote butterfly.
- Flight controller: the BB-FC01 board.
Building your own
The same BB-FC01 flight controller can be used to build a custom butterfly. With wing fabric, the carbon rod set and LED strip, you can create your own patterns. Settings are adjusted from a phone.
Frequently asked questions
Is it hard to fly?
The gyro stabilisation helps a lot, so beginners can learn it. Even so, practise well before flying at a real event.
Can it fly at night?
Yes. The three LED modes are made for evening and stage use.
Can I buy more than one for an event business?
Yes. Email info@aeroflow.in with your requirements, and ask about our wholesale accounts if you are buying for a business.
